Key Asian Marriage History

In Central Asia, a marriage is a major occasion that reflects the town’s wandering history. Although some customs were outlawed during the 60 to 70 centuries of Soviet/russian rule, marriage continues to be a considerable affair. This is mainly because of the fact that the households in this region are often huge, and each has its own specific practices

In the past, a few would spend time with their families before arranging their relationship. The marriage was usually held in autumn or late summer, when the weather is cooler and affordable food is available. The couple’s home may make a great dinner and her female cousins would supply her gifts. In some regions the groom’s family do give a marriage to the couple’s home, which could include horses, cattle, money, embroidery or clothing.

The possible man and his male cousins would then kidnap the woman ( in the old nomadic nights, by horses, nowadays, by car). He may finally take her to the house of his parents or his relatives. His father and elder relatives may try to persuade the wedding to put on a light jacket that signified her approval of the wedding, or danger pain and even death. This practise, known as ala kachuu, was outlawed during the Soviet time, but it appears to be making a comeback.

On the day of the bride, the lady would be sent with her money caravan to the couple’s home. She did become expected to walk there nude, and on the manner she was supposed to be showered with sweets and currencies. She also had to croon farewell songs before she left her filial residence, such as the popular Kyrgyz song Koshtasi Zhari.
