Competition Time: Run your typeface.

13 Oct 2011, Posted by admin in Uncategorized

It’s time to get fit for the winter season – that’s why Ingo teamed up with FigureRunning to bring you a special kind of of design competition: You get the chance to run your own typeface by using the cities grid. How does it work?

FigureRunning is the art of using GPS devices to draw on maps. The traces that you leave in the city by walking and running can be used to paint a picture.. or a FONT.

You will get the chance to design your own typeface by running through the city and using our new FigureRunning app or any other GPS-based mapping app. Use the cities grid to run a letter and send a screenshot of the map to him. Ingo collects letters that are run by people all over the world and when he has a full alphabet he’s going to transform them into a real font. When you download it, you can use it to write your name, a sweet note to your mother or even a book. Maybe. The font will be made freely available under the creative commons licence (Attribution CC-BY 3.0) in early 2012.

How be part of the fontrun fun:

  • Choose your favorite letter and find it in the streets of your neighbourhood
  • Send the following items to go@figurerunning.com or ii@lettersaremyfriends.com
    • An image of the letter you ran
    • A picture of yourself
    • Your motivation for choosing that letter: “I ran the M in Amsterdam because I love Martin”
  • Deadline: December 15th 2011

What happens next?

Ingo Italic will select the best letters to form an alphabet. All runners, their picture and their motivation will be in the credits. The font will be released at Letters Are My Friends with a special party and after that it will be available to download online.

What’s your favorite letter? Get out and run it now!
